Duration depends on your infrastructure complexity. Small setups can be migrated in 1-2 weeks. Complex environments with multiple databases and vRack configurations need 3-6 weeks.
OVH vRack enables private networks between servers. At Hetzner this is replaced by Private Networks – same functionality, but without additional costs and with simpler configuration.
Although OVH is already cheaper than AWS/Azure, Hetzner offers ~78% lower prices for comparable performance. Plus: 2.5x higher bandwidth (1 Gbit/s vs 400 Mbit/s at OVH), German company for better GDPR compliance, and more transparent pricing.
OVH is SecNumCloud certified (French standard for high-security cloud). Hetzner has ISO 27001 and German GDPR compliance. For most EU companies, Hetzner's certification is fully sufficient.
OVH Object Storage is migrated to Hetzner Object Storage (both S3-compatible). With rclone or s3cmd, data can be seamlessly synchronized. Usually an endpoint change in your application is sufficient.
OVH Logs Data Platform is replaced by the Prometheus + Grafana + Loki stack. We set this up completely on Hetzner – with ~80% cost savings and full control over your logs.
OVH limits port speed to 400 Mbit/s despite unlimited traffic. Hetzner offers 1 Gbit/s – 2.5x faster. For traffic-intensive applications this makes a significant difference.
OVH offers global presence with 40+ locations. Hetzner focuses on Germany (Nuremberg, Falkenstein) and Finland (Helsinki). For EU-focused companies this is perfectly sufficient and offers better GDPR compliance.
