Answers to the most important questions
Duration depends on your infrastructure complexity. Small setups (few EC2 instances) can be migrated in 1-2 weeks. Complex environments with multiple databases and services need 4-8 weeks. We create an individual timeline after the initial analysis.
For most migrations, we can reduce downtime to just a few minutes. Through parallel setup, database replication, and gradual DNS switching, we minimize outages. For critical systems, we plan the final cutover during low-traffic periods.
We map the AWS services actually in use to a target architecture individually. Possible components include managed PostgreSQL or MySQL instances, containers for suitable Lambda workloads and S3-compatible object storage. Not every proprietary feature has a one-to-one replacement.
Savings depend on workload profile, managed services, storage, traffic and the operating model. We therefore compare the current AWS invoice with a sized Hetzner target architecture. The separately documented EVA case achieved 81%; we do not use that result as a blanket forecast for other projects.
Hetzner offers selectable locations in Germany and Finland, a data processing agreement and documented technical measures. Whether the specific system meets privacy requirements also depends on its configuration, subprocessors, integrations and actual data flows.
The existing AWS infrastructure remains available until the validated cutover and throughout the agreed rollback window. Cutover, fallback criteria and decommissioning are defined in advance.
We perform a complete dump & restore or replication-based migration. PostgreSQL and MySQL can run in parallel during migration to minimize downtime.
Suitable Lambda functions can run as containerized services, for example via Coolify, Nomad or systemd. Event model, scaling, error handling and costs are reassessed for the specific workload.
We migrate your buckets to Hetzner Object Storage (S3-compatible API). In many cases, applications can continue working 1:1 because the S3 standard is fully supported.
We analyze CPU/RAM/IO requirements and map them to Hetzner CPX/CAX or dedicated servers. Often fewer resources are needed because Hetzner's CPU performance per vCore is higher.
AWS IAM is replaced by a combination of Hetzner Firewalls, Linux user management, VPN (WireGuard/NetBird), and optionally OpenID Connect.
Hetzner offers Private Networks, Floating IPs, and Firewalls. Things like NAT Gateways are simpler but functionally comparable. We design a secure zero-trust network model.
We migrate suitable PaaS workloads to Coolify or lightweight Docker deployments. Build, deployment, environment variables, health checks and TLS are mapped in the target architecture; cost and operational responsibility are compared for the project.
