How long does an Azure-to-Hetzner migration take?

After assessing the existing environment, we agree the timeline with you based on data volume, dependencies, testing scope and available cutover windows.

What happens to my Azure managed services?

We map the Azure services actually in use to a target architecture individually. Possible components include managed PostgreSQL or MySQL instances, containers for suitable Functions workloads and S3-compatible object storage. Not every proprietary feature has a one-to-one replacement.

How much can I really save with Hetzner?

Savings depend on VM sizes, managed disks, databases, traffic, discounts and the future operating model. We therefore compare the current Azure invoice with an appropriately sized Hetzner target architecture.

Is Hetzner privacy-focused?

Hetzner offers selectable locations in Germany and Finland, a data processing agreement and documented technical measures. Whether the specific system meets privacy requirements also depends on its configuration, subprocessors, integrations and actual data flows.

Can I keep my Azure Active Directory integration?

Microsoft Entra ID can continue to provide authentication where supported by the application. Alternatively, assess Keycloak or Authentik; plan integrations and recovery paths separately.

What if something goes wrong?

The existing Azure infrastructure remains available until the validated cutover and throughout the agreed rollback window. Cutover, fallback criteria and decommissioning are defined in advance.

How do I migrate Azure SQL to Hetzner?

The target depends on the database type. Move Azure Database for PostgreSQL and MySQL by dump or replication (Azure PostgreSQL). Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance use SQL Server and T-SQL: decide whether to retain licensed SQL Server or move to PostgreSQL. That requires changes to schema, procedures and the application.

What happens to Azure Functions?

Suitable Azure Functions become containerised services through Coolify or Kubernetes. Reassess triggers, bindings, scaling and cost per function; some require application changes.

How is Blob Storage replaced?

We migrate Blob Storage to Hetzner Object Storage (S3-compatible). Cross-location bucket replication is not built in. Additional synchronisation between locations is configured and commissioned separately; its scope and recovery objectives are agreed per project. We assess lifecycle rules against the required features.

Is there an equivalent to Azure Monitor?

Prometheus, Grafana, Loki and Alertmanager cover metrics, logs and alerts. Define in advance which Azure Monitor features, such as Application Insights, need replacing.

How does migration from Azure VNet to Hetzner Private Networks work?

We mirror your network segmentation, firewalls and access rules and replace Azure network services with Private Networks, Floating IPs and Load Balancers at Hetzner.

What happens to my Azure App Services?

We inventory runtime, builds, start commands, variables, identities and integrations. Suitable applications are then deployed in containers through Coolify, systemd or Kubernetes, validated in staging and switched over with a planned cutover.

Is there an equivalent to Azure App Services at Hetzner?

Coolify can support Git deployments, staging and container operations. Assess autoscaling, platform identities and Azure-specific integrations separately; full feature parity is not assumed.

Where are Hetzner servers located?

For customer projects, options include Falkenstein and Nuremberg in Germany and Helsinki in Finland. Other cloud locations exist in the USA and Singapore. Hetzner locations and network zones are considered when choosing the target.

Do you migrate environments for customers in Austria and Switzerland?

Yes. WZ-IT handles migrations for customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; prices are in euros, excluding VAT.

How is Azure AKS migrated to Hetzner?

Kubernetes workloads move to self-managed clusters using k3s, RKE2 or Talos. Map manifests, ingress, storage classes, identities and secrets to the target. The distribution comparison and Kubernetes operations explain the target choice.

What alternatives are there to Microsoft Azure?

Depending on workloads, options include Hetzner, STACKIT, IONOS or OVHcloud, or own servers running Proxmox. Choose based on services in use, compliance requirements and operating model.

Can Windows Server VMs be migrated from Azure to Hetzner?

Yes, suitable Windows Server VMs can be transferred. Resolve Windows Server and SQL Server licensing and the process described in Windows on Hetzner Cloud in advance.
