Duration depends on your infrastructure complexity. Small setups (few Droplets) can be migrated in 1-2 weeks. Complex environments with multiple databases and services need 3-6 weeks. We create an individual timeline after the initial analysis.
For every DigitalOcean managed service there are Hetzner equivalents: Managed Databases become self-hosted PostgreSQL/MySQL on Proxmox, App Platform becomes Docker/Coolify, Spaces becomes Hetzner Object Storage (S3-compatible API). We take over management of these services for you.
Typical savings are around 74%. For comparable Droplets (4 vCPU, 8GB RAM), DigitalOcean costs ~€43/month, Hetzner only €10.99. The price difference is smaller than AWS/Azure/GCP, but Hetzner offers 20TB instead of 5TB traffic.
Yes, Hetzner is a German company with data centers in Germany and Finland. All data stays in the EU, no data transfer to the USA. Hetzner is ISO 27001 certified and offers DPAs for GDPR compliance.
DigitalOcean is cheaper than AWS/Azure, but still significantly more expensive than Hetzner. Additionally: DigitalOcean has no EU data centers in Germany, Hetzner offers better performance per Euro and 20TB traffic included instead of expensive bandwidth costs.
Your DigitalOcean infrastructure remains intact throughout the entire migration. We copy data, we don't move it. Only after successful validation on Hetzner does the final cutover happen. A rollback to DigitalOcean is possible at any time.
Droplets are migrated to Hetzner Cloud Servers (CPX/CAX) or Proxmox VMs. We analyze CPU/RAM/disk requirements and choose the optimal configuration.
We migrate Spaces to Hetzner Object Storage (S3-compatible). In most cases, an endpoint change is sufficient since the S3 API is fully supported.
Managed Databases become self-hosted PostgreSQL/MySQL on Proxmox or Docker. We fully take over backups, monitoring and updates.
We replicate your firewall rules to Hetzner Cloud Firewalls and Linux iptables. Private Networks replace VPCs for secure internal communication.
