Kubernetes versions, add-ons, network, persistence, and upgrade responsibility form a separate cluster scope.

WZ-IT takes over the agreed customer scope above the Exoscale platform. Compute, private networks, SKS, Object Storage, and DBaaS are separated by responsibility and recovery boundaries, then connected as one system.

01Compute & Linux operations

Operate Exoscale Compute Instances as production systems

We take over suitable Linux instances including access, operating system, maintenance, and application-aware monitoring. Instance type, storage, and placement are aligned with the workload.

Responsibility boundary

Exoscale operates the hypervisor and cloud infrastructure. The guest operating system, installed services, access, and application remain customer duties until WZ-IT explicitly takes them over.

Specific scope

  • Size and select instance family, template, volumes, and zones
  • Linux hardening, SSH keys, roles, and documented administration paths
  • Operating-system and security updates in coordinated maintenance windows
  • Operate Docker, reverse proxies, databases, and agreed applications
  • Review capacity, lifecycle, and cost using actual utilization

Outcome

A documented compute foundation with controlled operations and explainable provider boundaries.

02Networking & security

Design Security Groups, private networks, and transitions together

Production workloads need controlled data paths instead of isolated public exceptions. We structure networks, reachability, load balancing, and administration access around the application.

Responsibility boundary

Exoscale supplies networking functions. Rules, topology, approved data flows, and integration of external networks remain part of the customer architecture.

Specific scope

  • Private Networks and IP planning for separate application and management paths
  • Least-privilege Security Groups based on documented communication relationships
  • Elastic IPs, Network Load Balancers, and public endpoints where required
  • Site-to-site or overlay connectivity to Proxmox, other clouds, and on-premises systems
  • Separate technical identities and monitored tunnel and gateway paths

Outcome

A network model that reduces public attack surface and can integrate additional operating sites in a controlled way.

03SKS & workloads

Operate Managed Kubernetes through to the production workload

SKS provides a managed Kubernetes control plane. After assessment, WZ-IT takes over the remaining responsibility for node pools, add-ons, deployments, data, and observability.

Responsibility boundary

The managed control plane does not automatically cover worker configuration, add-ons, workloads, persistent data, and application behavior. These layers are agreed separately.

Specific scope

  • Cluster and node-pool design aligned with load, zone, and availability requirements
  • Ingress, load balancers, certificates, registry, secrets, and policies
  • GitOps, deployments, health checks, and documented rollback paths
  • Monitor cluster health, nodes, capacity, and application services
  • Plan upgrades for Kubernetes, add-ons, and stateful workloads

Outcome

An SKS operating model with a clear boundary between Exoscale, WZ-IT, and the application team.

04SOS, DBaaS & recovery

Fit object storage and managed databases into the recovery scope

Simple Object Storage and DBaaS can reduce infrastructure duties. We add access, monitoring, data paths, retention, and recovery of the complete application service.

Responsibility boundary

Managed Storage or DBaaS does not assume responsibility for schemas, permissions, data quality, application consistency, and recovery of the complete business process.

Specific scope

  • Structure SOS buckets for backups or application data by access and lifecycle
  • Integrate DBaaS services such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Valkey after product review
  • Add application-consistent backups and exports suited to the data service
  • Document keys, roles, retention, and separate failure domains
  • Restore tests and alignment of RPO, RTO, and restart sequence

Outcome

A data and recovery scope that treats provider service and application as one connected system.

05Governance & hybrid operations

Control Exoscale as a European component over time

We connect IAM, automation, monitoring, cost control, and provider coordination. Exoscale can run independently or join a wider network spanning cloud, Proxmox, and on-premises systems.

Responsibility boundary

A European operating location does not replace assessment of contract, data classification, permissions, and customer configuration. These requirements remain workload-specific.

Specific scope

  • Inventory organizations, zones, resources, roles, and dependencies
  • Infrastructure as code through Terraform and controlled changes through API and CLI
  • Central monitoring, runbooks, maintenance windows, and service-level escalation
  • Technically isolate and coordinate required Exoscale support cases
  • Migration and hybrid integration with tests, data reconciliation, and documented rollback

An Exoscale environment with repeatable changes, controlled responsibility, and a connection to the wider system.

Who is responsible for what at Exoscale?

Exoscale operates the cloud platform and the managed share of each service. WZ-IT takes over the documented customer scope for systems, integrations, and ongoing operations.

  • IAM roles, zones, resource selection, and approved operations access in the Exoscale account
  • Guest operating systems plus node pools, add-ons, and workloads above the SKS control plane
  • Security Groups, private networks, public endpoints, and approved data flows
  • Backup design, data retention, and recovery of the complete application service
  • Definition of data classes, maintenance windows, recovery objectives, and escalation contacts

What we take over

  • Linux guest operations, hardening, patching, and maintenance under the agreed scope

  • 24/7 monitoring and response according to the selected service level

One operating model

One operating model for Exoscale and additional systems

The provider is only one operating location. WZ-IT connects servers, clouds, and on-premises systems into a documented environment with consistent monitoring, controlled access, and one coordinated service level.

Location and control

Contracts, accounts, and administrative control remain with you. We take over the agreed technical operations without moving the infrastructure into a closed hosting product.

Private connectivity

NetBird, WireGuard, or existing site connections integrate further clouds, Proxmox systems, and on-premises networks through controlled paths.

Operations and response

Monitoring, updates, backups, documentation, and incident response are designed across all participating systems and operated according to the selected service level.
