Scaleway as a controlled location within the overall system

Scaleway can provide compute and platform services in European regions. WZ-IT takes on the agreed guest and platform operations without claiming a partnership with Scaleway.

Linux workloads

Suitable Instances and bare-metal systems are managed with patching, monitoring, and backup controls.

Platform services by scope

Kubernetes, databases, object storage, and networking services are assessed and scoped separately.

Hybrid integration

Private connections link Scaleway with Proxmox, other clouds, and on-premises systems.

Instances, Elastic Metal, Private Networks, and Kapsule are distinct technical scopes. WZ-IT fits them into one operating model and documents which duties sit with Scaleway, WZ-IT, and your team.

01Instances & Elastic Metal

Operate virtual and physical Linux systems for production

We take over suitable Scaleway Instances and Elastic Metal servers from baseline configuration through ongoing operations. Sizing, guest operations, and hardware escalation remain separate concerns.

Responsibility boundary

Scaleway operates the cloud and hardware platform. The operating system, installed services, configuration, and application remain customer duties until WZ-IT explicitly takes them over.

Specific scope

  • Size and select suitable Instances, images, volumes, or Elastic Metal systems
  • Linux hardening, SSH, roles, and documented administration paths
  • Operating-system and security updates with maintenance windows and rollback planning
  • Operate Docker, reverse proxies, databases, and agreed application services
  • Escalate underlying compute, network, or hardware issues to the provider

Outcome

A documented compute scope with a clear split between provider platform and ongoing system operations.

02VPC & Private Networks

Design private networks and hybrid data paths in a controlled way

Scaleway resources can connect through VPC and Private Networks. We turn these functions into explainable segments, access paths, and private transitions to other clouds or sites where required.

Responsibility boundary

Scaleway supplies networking features. Topology, rules, routing, hybrid links, and approved data flows must be designed and maintained in the customer's context.

Specific scope

  • VPC, subnet, and IP planning for applications, data, management, and transitions
  • Private Networks for Instances, Elastic Metal, load balancers, and suitable platform services
  • Public Gateways, Security Groups, ACLs, and controlled administration access by scope
  • Site-to-site or overlay links to Proxmox, on-premises systems, and other clouds
  • Document communication paths and monitor central tunnels and gateways

Outcome

An extensible network model that can add sites and workloads without new one-off connectors.

03Kapsule & containers

Extend Managed Kubernetes operations through the application layer

Kapsule manages parts of the Kubernetes platform. After assessment, WZ-IT operates the remaining layers: node pools, add-ons, deployments, persistence, observability, and controlled upgrades.

Responsibility boundary

A managed control plane does not automatically cover workers, add-ons, workloads, data, and application behavior. These layers receive their own operating scope.

Specific scope

  • Cluster and node-pool design aligned with load, zones, and availability objectives
  • Ingress, certificates, registry, secrets, policies, and network integration
  • GitOps, deployments, health checks, and documented rollback procedures
  • Monitor workloads, capacity, cluster health, and agreed service signals
  • Plan upgrades for Kubernetes versions, add-ons, and stateful applications

Outcome

A Kubernetes scope that clearly separates provider service from remaining production responsibility.

04Data & recovery

Tie storage and managed databases to recovery objectives

Block Storage, Object Storage, and managed databases are not merely connected. We assess data paths, retention, application dependencies, and recovery of the complete service.

Responsibility boundary

A managed data service removes infrastructure work, not responsibility for schemas, access, data quality, application consistency, and complete service recovery.

Specific scope

  • Structure Block and Object Storage use by data class and lifecycle
  • Integrate Managed PostgreSQL, MySQL, and other data services after product review
  • Complement backup and snapshot functions with application-consistent protection
  • Document access, keys, retention, and separate failure domains
  • Restore tests and alignment of RPO, RTO, and restart sequence

A recovery model that considers the data service, application, and dependencies together.

05Automation & multi-cloud

Fit Scaleway into a provider-independent operating model

We connect resource management, roles, automation, monitoring, and cost control. Scaleway can be an independent operating site or part of a wider European hybrid architecture.

Responsibility boundary

Multi-cloud is not an objective in itself. Additional providers are included only when location, availability, cost, or technical capability justifies the added operating effort.

Specific scope

  • Inventory organizations, projects, resources, identities, and dependencies
  • Infrastructure as code through Terraform and controlled changes through API or CLI
  • Central monitoring, runbooks, maintenance windows, and service-level escalation
  • Cost, capacity, and lifecycle reviews based on actual utilization
  • Migration to, from, or within Scaleway with testing, data reconciliation, and rollback

A Scaleway environment that fits as a replaceable component within a shared network and operating model.

Who is responsible for what at Scaleway?

Scaleway operates the booked cloud and platform services. WZ-IT takes over the agreed guest, integration, and application operations above that provider boundary.

  • IAM roles, projects, resource selection, and approved administration access in the Scaleway account
  • Guest operating systems plus workers, add-ons, and workloads above managed control planes
  • Network topology, Security Groups, routing, and approved links to external systems
  • Backup design, retention, and recovery of the complete application service
  • Definition of data classes, maintenance windows, recovery objectives, and escalation contacts

What we take over

  • Linux guest operations, hardening, patching, and maintenance under the agreed scope
  • Integration and operations for networking, Kapsule workloads, and platform services
  • 24/7 monitoring and response according to the selected service level
  • Backup, recovery, and restore procedures aligned with the workload
  • Incident analysis and technical coordination of required Scaleway tickets
One operating model

One operating model for Scaleway and additional systems

The provider is only one operating location. WZ-IT connects servers, clouds, and on-premises systems into a documented environment with consistent monitoring, controlled access, and one coordinated service level.

Location and control

Contracts, accounts, and administrative control remain with you. We take over the agreed technical operations without moving the infrastructure into a closed hosting product.

Private connectivity

NetBird, WireGuard, or existing site connections integrate further clouds, Proxmox systems, and on-premises networks through controlled paths.

Operations and response

Monitoring, updates, backups, documentation, and incident response are designed across all participating systems and operated according to the selected service level.
