STACKIT is the sovereign cloud of the Schwarz Group (Lidl, Kaufland) - European ownership, C5 Type 2 attestation, KRITIS-proven. We build and operate your Proxmox cluster on hardware you own, hosted in STACKIT data centers.

The following are trademarks of their respective owners: Proxmox VE (Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH), STACKIT (STACKIT GmbH & Co. KG (Schwarz Gruppe)). WZ-IT is an independent service provider and has no business, partnership, or contractual relationship with these companies. We offer independent migration, installation, hosting, and operations services.
When data sovereignty is non-negotiable and CLOUD Act exposure is a showstopper.
Operated by Schwarz Digits (Schwarz Group: Lidl, Kaufland). Companies, data centers and servers exclusively in Europe - US legal access such as via the CLOUD Act can thus be architecturally avoided.
BSI C5 Type 2 attestation for STACKIT cloud services, ISO 27001 based on IT-Grundschutz, TISAX Level 3, ISAE 3000/3402. The data centers are certified to TSI and DIN EN 50600.
Certified locations in Neckarsulm and Ellhofen (Germany) and Ostermiething (Austria) - georedundant and exclusively under European law.
Procured by the EU Commission at the highest sovereignty level (SEAL-3), cloud foundation of the German federal AI platform, strategic BSI partnership - STACKIT has arrived in the public sector.
Industries with highest compliance requirements benefit most from sovereignty guarantees.
Federal authorities, state administration, municipalities. Sovereign Proxmox platform with BSI-compliant infrastructure.
Hospitals, medical care centers, insurers. Processing of health data under strictest GDPR requirements.
Banks, savings banks, insurers. BaFin-compliant cloud infrastructure without CLOUD Act exposure.
Energy, water, transport, telecom. Critical infrastructures with layered security controls and availability requirements.
We handle the setup of your Proxmox infrastructure on STACKIT, from architecture and migration to ongoing operations with a selectable service level.

Choosing STACKIT in 2026 is no longer betting on an experiment. Within months, the platform has collected Europe’s biggest sovereignty references:
Schwarz Digits and the German Federal Office for Information Security agree on a strategic partnership at the Munich Security Conference.
STACKIT becomes one of four providers in the EU Commission’s sovereign cloud procurement - as a provider at the highest level, SEAL-3 ("Digital Resilience").
The Dutch government names STACKIT its official European cloud alternative; a sovereign cloud for the Netherlands is being built with KPN.
STACKIT provides the cloud infrastructure for the German federal AI platform (BMDS) - with BYOK/HYOK key management and a zero-trust architecture.
STACKIT does not rent out bare-metal servers - and that is exactly what makes the model so sovereign: your Proxmox cluster runs on hardware you own, in STACKIT colocation (racks from 47 rack units, lockable cages or private rooms). Full control over the hypervisor, no foreign virtualization layer beneath it.
We specify the hardware (sizing, ECC RAM, enterprise SSDs with PLP, redundant NICs) - you purchase it directly via your vendor, and it is yours from day one. We help coordinate the colocation in Neckarsulm, Ellhofen or Ostermiething.
Proxmox VE 9 with ZFS or Ceph, dedicated corosync network, PBS backups with offsite copy, hardening per our security baseline - fully documented.
Updates in maintenance windows, 24/7 monitoring via our Zabbix cluster, fixed response times - as Managed Proxmox from €179.90 per node per month.
Workloads that do not need their own hypervisor can additionally run on the STACKIT Compute Engine (C5 Type 2 scope) - we combine both in one architecture. Ongoing operations are covered by Managed Proxmox.

STACKIT is the sovereign cloud of Schwarz Digits, the IT division of the Schwarz Group (Lidl, Kaufland) - by its own positioning the first European hyperscaler. Certified data centers are located in Neckarsulm, Ellhofen (Germany) and Ostermiething (Austria). In 2026, STACKIT was procured by the EU Commission at the highest sovereignty level (SEAL-3) and provides the cloud foundation of the German federal AI platform; a strategic partnership with the BSI has been in place since February 2026.
No. STACKIT offers cloud services (Compute Engine, Kubernetes, storage) and colocation, but no rentable bare-metal servers. Proxmox on STACKIT therefore means: your own hardware in STACKIT colocation (racks from 47 rack units, cages or private rooms). That is more sovereign than any rental model - the hardware is yours, and we plan, build and operate the cluster on it.
Both have their place. The STACKIT Compute Engine provides VMs within the C5 Type 2 scope - good for standard workloads. Proxmox on your own hardware gives you full control over hypervisor, storage (ZFS/Ceph) and network, predictable fixed costs instead of consumption billing, and a stack that can be migrated to Hetzner, OVH, IONOS or on-premises at any time. We combine both layers where it makes sense.
For comparable compute: yes. STACKIT positions itself in the premium segment with published price lists for cloud services; colocation is on request. The premium buys the compliance layer: C5 Type 2 attestation, TISAX Level 3, KRITIS references and the public-sector traction that Hetzner does not offer. In the intro call we calculate whether that pays off for your case.
Yes. Since we use Proxmox VE (an open standard) and the hardware is yours, your VMs can be migrated to another Proxmox cluster at Hetzner, OVH, IONOS or on-premises at any time. No vendor lock-in - neither with STACKIT nor with us.
Three components: your hardware (a one-off purchase made directly by you or via your vendor - we provide the specification), the STACKIT colocation (a contract between you and STACKIT, depending on rack needs and power) and our build plus operations - which runs as Managed Proxmox transparently from €179.90 per node per month. We create a concrete overall framework after the architecture workshop.
No risk: worst case, you leave with a clearer understanding of your project than before.

“WZ-IT's advice on our Azure migration was technically sound and completely non-binding right from the intro call - we took away a great deal.”
