Proxmox Backup Server is a powerful open-source enterprise backup solution specifically designed for virtual environments. With client-side AES-256-GCM encryption, incremental backups, and intelligent deduplication, PBS provides maximum data security with minimal storage requirements.
As Proxmox experts, we help you with installation, configuration, and operation of your Proxmox Backup Server infrastructure. Whether for Proxmox VE, physical servers, or cloud environments – we ensure reliable backup strategies with automatic verification and optional replication.
We install, configure, and operate Proxmox Backup Server for your company - either on our secure, GDPR-compliant infrastructure in Germany or on-premise in your own environment.
With 24/7 monitoring, enterprise support, automatic updates, and professional maintenance, we ensure maximum availability and reliable protection of your data.
Chunk-based deduplication with variable and fixed chunk sizes drastically reduces storage requirements. Both encrypted and unencrypted backups benefit from efficient storage utilization.
AES-256 in Galois/Counter Mode (GCM) encrypts your data on the client before it reaches the server. Authenticated encryption guarantees integrity and confidentiality of your backups.
Only changed data blocks are transferred and stored. This significantly reduces backup times, network load, and storage requirements while enabling fast restore operations.
High-performance Zstandard (zstd) compression reduces data volume in addition to deduplication. Optimal balance between compression ratio and speed for efficient backups.
Integrated backup verification automatically checks the integrity of your stored data. Checksums and authentication ensure that your backups are actually recoverable in an emergency.
Synchronize backups between multiple Proxmox Backup Servers for geographic redundancy. Supports encrypted and verified snapshots with optimal resource consumption.
Native support for S3-compatible object storage solutions since version 4.0. Use cost-effective cloud storage or on-premise S3 solutions as backup targets.
Improved garbage collection with caching mechanisms reduces resource-intensive metadata updates. Efficient management even with large backup repositories containing thousands of snapshots.
Intuitive web GUI for management, monitoring, and restore operations. RESTful API enables complete automation and integration into existing IT infrastructures.
With PBS 4.2 (May 2026), S3-compatible object storage as backup backend is no longer tech preview — it is production-ready.
We configure PBS with S3 backend, retention policies, encryption and regular restore tests — fully managed.
S3 Object Lock (WORM) breaks the PBS datastore structure. PBS needs the ability to delete chunks during garbage collection. Keep Object Lock disabled.
PBS is the dedicated backup solution for Proxmox VE. It offers incremental backups with deduplication, client-side encryption (AES-256-GCM), and efficient compression. PBS integrates seamlessly with Proxmox VE and can be centrally managed via the web GUI.
PBS encrypts backups client-side — the backup server never sees unencrypted data. Even if the backup server is compromised, your data remains protected. We additionally recommend offsite replication to a second PBS or S3-compatible storage.
Thanks to deduplication and compression, storage requirements are significantly lower than with traditional backup solutions. As a rule of thumb: expect 30-50% of the source data volume for a 7-day retention. The actual requirement depends on the change rate of your data.
Yes. PBS can serve as a central backup server that backs up VMs from multiple Proxmox instances — even across provider boundaries. The requirement is a network connection (VPN or public with encryption) between the Proxmox hosts and the PBS.
Yes. We plan, install, and configure your Proxmox Backup Server — whether on dedicated hardware, as a VM, or with a separate provider. Including backup jobs, retention policies, monitoring, and regular restore tests.
Beyond Proxmox, we also operate your servers, open-source applications and legacy systems — with defined service levels and personal contact.
Discover Managed OperationsWhether a specific IT challenge or just an idea – we look forward to the exchange. In a brief conversation, we'll evaluate together if and how your project fits with WZ-IT.
