OVHcloud

Operations for OVHcloud infrastructure

OVHcloud provides dedicated servers, Public Cloud, and vRack for different infrastructure models. With self-managed systems, the customer remains responsible for operating systems, applications, monitoring, backups, and technical troubleshooting. We take over these tasks within the agreed scope and coordinate provider-related escalations.

vRack & Private Networking

We design private networks between suitable dedicated and Public Cloud resources. VLANs, routing, MTU, and failure domains are documented.

IP Management & VMs

Additional IPs are routed or connected in bridge mode according to the server range. We use virtual MACs only where the product and target architecture support them.

Align network protection

We align OVHcloud Anti-DDoS and Edge Network Firewall with the local firewall, exposed services, and alerting.

Which OVHcloud products we specifically operate and integrate

OVHcloud combines bare metal, VPS, and Public Cloud with its own networking, storage, and platform services. For each product, we define what OVHcloud provides and which configuration or operating responsibility WZ-IT takes over.

01Bare metal & VPS

Operate Dedicated Servers, VPS, and Public Cloud Instances

We take over suitable Linux systems after an assessment and align the operating path with the relevant OVHcloud product family.

Responsibility boundary

OVHcloud is responsible for hardware, data centers, and the provider network. The operating system, local security, data, and applications remain customer responsibilities unless WZ-IT takes them over.

Products and operating tasks

  • Dedicated Servers from suitable Advance, Scale, or High Grade ranges after assessment
  • Operate Linux, services, and applications on VPS and Public Cloud Instances
  • Include Rescue Mode, KVM/IPMI, and hardware escalation in runbooks
  • Monitor RAID, SMART, file systems, and available hardware indicators
  • Automate provisioning and changes through the OVHcloud API or Terraform

Outcome

A product-specific operating path instead of treating every OVHcloud server the same.

02vRack & IP

Design vRack, Additional IPs, and virtual networks correctly

OVHcloud networking features differ by server range and Public Cloud product. We document routing, bridge mode, VLANs, and failover behavior before implementation.

Responsibility boundary

Additional IP, vMAC, and vRack behave differently by product and region. WZ-IT checks current OVHcloud documentation and does not base critical architecture on unverified assumptions.

  • vRack private networking between suitable Dedicated and Public Cloud resources
  • Additional IPv4 and Additional IPv6 according to the regional routing model
  • vMAC and bridge configuration only where the product and target architecture support them

03Security & traffic

Fit Anti-DDoS and Edge Network Firewall into one security design

Provider-side network protection, local firewalls, and application access serve different purposes and are designed together.

Responsibility boundary

Anti-DDoS and Edge Network Firewall do not replace host and application security. Their coverage and technical limits remain separate assessment areas.

  • Include OVHcloud Anti-DDoS and Network Security Dashboard in incident procedures
  • Configure Edge Network Firewall for supported protocols and exposed services
  • Add local Linux firewalls, VPN, and administrative access controls
  • Review Security Groups and load-balancer rules for Public Cloud
  • Collect network and service metrics for technical provider escalation

Outcome

A coordinated protection path from the OVHcloud network edge to the service inside the operating system.

04Public Cloud platform

Integrate Managed Kubernetes, registry, and data services

In OVHcloud Public Cloud, we take over the remaining platform and application responsibilities above the managed provider services by scope.

Responsibility boundary

A managed control plane or database does not automatically cover workloads, data models, access, capacity, observability, or application recovery.

  • Managed Kubernetes Service with node pools, upgrades, add-ons, and workloads
  • Managed Private Registry for images, permissions, and deployment paths
  • Managed Databases for PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, or Kafka after product review

  • Observability, secrets, CI/CD, and recovery for the specific workload

05Backup, Proxmox & operations

Implement recovery and virtualization by product

We combine available OVHcloud storage functions with application-aware protection. Proxmox on Dedicated Servers is designed as a separate architecture scope.

Responsibility boundary

Storage features, backup, and high availability are not equivalent. Proxmox clusters, networking, quorum, and recovery are assessed separately.

Products and operating tasks

  • Use Backup Storage, Public Cloud Block Storage, and Object Storage where suitable
  • Organize application-consistent backups, separate copies, and restore tests
  • Design Proxmox VE on suitable Dedicated Servers with vRack and Additional IPs
  • 24/7 monitoring and incident response according to the agreed service level
  • Migrate from VMware, hyperscalers, or existing servers with a rollback path

An operating and recovery model that fits the selected OVHcloud product family.

Responsibility

What OVHcloud does not cover - and we do

For self-managed OVHcloud systems, the customer generally remains responsible for the operating system, applications, data, and operational controls. WZ-IT takes over the agreed portion.

Your responsibility at OVHcloud

  • OVHcloud's dedicated-server responsibility matrix assigns installed software, OS and middleware security, and data to the customer.
  • The customer defines the IP plan, filtering rules, and application-specific network architecture.
  • Backup devices or storage targets do not replace data backup configuration, control, and recovery.
  • Physical infrastructure monitoring and monitoring installed services are separate duties.

What we take over

  • Patching and updates in coordinated maintenance windows
  • Security hardening and a documented access model
  • Monitoring; response according to the selected service level
  • Backup management; restore tests according to the agreed scope
  • Incident handling including ticket coordination with OVHcloud

Network & vRack

Yes. OVHcloud documents routed and bridge-based variants depending on the dedicated server range. We assess the server model, vMAC support, vRack, and target architecture and implement the suitable configuration with a documented rollback path.

Yes, where the selected OVHcloud products and locations support vRack. We design VLANs, IP ranges, routing, MTU, and access. vRack provides private connectivity but does not replace a high-availability or recovery design.

For supported products, Additional IPs can be assigned to another target through the Control Panel or API. Whether and how this is automated is defined in the runbook. Switchover and recovery time depend on the product, target system, and application.

Yes, where the load balancer fits the selected architecture. Frontends, certificates, backends, health checks, and operating boundaries are documented as a separate network and application scope.

Products & Platforms

Before takeover, we assess whether hardware, management access, support model, and recovery options fit the use case. Production or time-critical systems may require another server range or a redundant architecture.

Yes. We operate suitable Linux instances and VPS. Networking, storage, backup, and provider capabilities differ from dedicated servers and are therefore inventoried by product.

Yes, as a separate Kubernetes scope. OVHcloud provides the Managed Kubernetes Service; WZ-IT can manage node pools, networking, storage, add-ons, GitOps, monitoring, and workloads with clearly separated responsibilities.

We inventory version, licensing model, hardware, networking, and migration dependencies. Depending on the starting point, we plan supported continued operation or a controlled migration to Proxmox.

Security & DDoS

Not in every case. Anti-DDoS, Edge Network Firewall, local firewall, and application protection act at different layers. We configure available controls for the exposed services and define alert and escalation paths.

We use separate technical users and SSH keys, limit privileges, and protect management interfaces through VPN, a bastion, private networks, or defined source addresses depending on the architecture.

We preserve the agreed technical state, assess cause and impact, and coordinate required steps with the customer and OVHcloud. Recovery and evidence preservation follow the incident runbook; compromised systems are not returned to service without verification.

Backup & Recovery

Yes, where capacity, protocol, encryption, failure domain, and recovery objective fit. We do not classify it as sufficient or unsuitable by default; we place it within a backup strategy with defined RPO, RTO, and recovery tests.

OVHcloud is responsible for the provided hardware. We distinguish hardware, operating-system, and application failures, supply diagnostic data, open required tickets, and then execute the agreed recovery steps.

Process & Service Level

No. We use separate technical access, contacts, or API permissions where the product supports them, as well as dedicated SSH keys. Required privileges and emergency access are documented during onboarding.

Yes. Contracts, infrastructure, and invoices remain with the customer. WZ-IT receives the access required for the scope and takes over only the documented systems and operating duties.

Monitoring-only starts at €79.90 net per customer environment and month; alerts go to your team. Management of an existing Linux server starts at €149.90 net per month. Scope and incident response depend on the audit and service level; progressive volume pricing applies to further servers.

Yes. We inventory services, data, networking, availability, security controls, and operating costs and design a suitable OVHcloud target architecture. Savings are calculated for the project; test migration, cutover, and rollback are planned in advance.

For regular operations, we primarily support Debian, Ubuntu LTS, AlmaLinux, and Rocky Linux. Other, custom, or end-of-life installations are assessed for hardware compatibility, maintainability, and an upgrade path before takeover.

Production and Critical include 24/7 response to qualified P1 incidents within the agreed response times. Other priorities and service levels follow their service windows. Provider escalation and recovery are performed within the documented scope and runbooks.
