Hetzner Cloud Servers
Existing Linux VMs, private networks, firewalls, volumes, and backups within the agreed operational scope.
We take over existing Hetzner Cloud and dedicated servers in your account. Patching, hardening, backup management, and incident response are clearly scoped; root access and the provider contract remain yours.
The following are trademarks of their respective owners: Hetzner (Hetzner Online GmbH). WZ-IT is an independent service provider and has no business, partnership, or contractual relationship with these companies. We offer independent migration, installation, hosting, and operations services.
With Hetzner Cloud and dedicated servers, the client is responsible for operating system, maintenance, and security. WZ-IT takes over this technical responsibility under a documented scope. This is deliberately different from Hetzner's own Managed Server product: your existing architecture remains flexible and your contracts continue unchanged.
Existing Linux VMs, private networks, firewalls, volumes, and backups within the agreed operational scope.
AX, EX, and other dedicated systems with operating-system operations, hardware signals, and coordinated escalation to Hetzner.
Takeover following a technical audit. Hardware health, operating system, backup capability, and replacement needs are assessed first.
Single nodes, clusters, routing, and backup are scoped separately rather than treated as one standard server.
We operate customer-owned Hetzner environments. Hetzner Cloud, dedicated servers, and storage products are scoped separately because their control planes, network features, recovery paths, and responsibility boundaries differ.
We design and operate Linux systems in Hetzner Cloud together with the resources required for networking, storage, and recovery.
Responsibility boundary
Hetzner operates the data center, hardware, and cloud platform. The guest operating system, firewall rules, data, applications, and recovery procedures remain customer responsibilities unless WZ-IT takes them over.
Products and operating tasks
Outcome
A documented Hetzner Cloud environment whose compute, network, and storage resources fit the operating model.
Dedicated servers are managed through Robot and require different access, network, and hardware processes from Cloud Servers. We take over Server Auction systems only after an assessment.
Responsibility boundary
Hetzner replaces defective hardware within its product terms. WZ-IT monitors available signals, isolates faults, and coordinates tickets; hardware response times remain a Hetzner service.
Products and operating tasks
Outcome
A reliable operating path from a Linux incident through qualified hardware escalation.
Hetzner Cloud Networks and Robot vSwitch are different products. We design routing, VLANs, MTU, firewalls, and transitions between cloud, dedicated, and external sites as one architecture.
Responsibility boundary
Individual Hetzner network features do not automatically create high availability. Routing, health checks, quorum, and application failover require separate design and testing.
Products and operating tasks
Outcome
Explainable network and failover paths for cloud, bare-metal, and hybrid systems.
We map Hetzner storage products to access patterns, failure domains, and recovery objectives and add application-consistent protection where needed.
Responsibility boundary
Snapshots, Cloud Backups, Storage Box, and Object Storage serve different purposes. Application-consistent protection must be defined for each system.
Products and operating tasks
Outcome
A recovery design that connects product capabilities, data consistency, and actual service restart.
On Cloud Servers and Dedicated Servers, we can also operate the platform above the operating system. Proxmox clusters are scoped separately because of networking, quorum, and backup requirements.
Responsibility boundary
WZ-IT is an independent service provider. This offering is not Hetzner's native Managed Server product; servers and contracts remain in the customer's account.
Products and operating tasks
Outcome
One accountable contact for infrastructure, Linux, and the explicitly agreed application scope.
Hetzner provides the data centre and booked infrastructure. Operation and security of Cloud and dedicated instances remain the client's responsibility.
The term managed server describes different models. Root access, stack flexibility, and assigned operational responsibility are the key differences.
| Model | Root access | Operations | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hetzner Cloud / Root Server | Yes | By your team | Teams with in-house Linux administration |
| Hetzner Managed Server | No, regular Linux user | Standardised by Hetzner | Web, mail, and database services within the product scope |
| Hetzner server with WZ-IT | Yes, in your account | Under the agreed WZ-IT scope | Custom Linux stacks, containers, platforms, and existing servers |
Service scope
With Monitoring Only, alerts go to your team; response by WZ-IT is not included. Your servers remain in your provider account. The first managed Linux server starts at €149.90; progressive volume pricing applies from the second server.
The tiers account for lower onboarding and coordination effort per system when several similar servers are operated together. Special stacks and clusters are priced after the audit.
Major migrations, new architectures, development work, and fundamental stack changes are project services and are quoted before implementation.
An existing server is not taken over blindly. Risks, responsibilities, and required transition work are documented before operations begin.
Record servers, access, services, updates, backups, and known risks
Agree responsibilities, service level, maintenance windows, and transition plan
Secure access, connect monitoring, and verify backup status
Handle patches, alerts, incidents, and agreed changes with traceability
Proxmox
Routing, failover IP design, private networks, quorum, storage, and recovery need to fit together. We therefore do not price Proxmox nodes and clusters like one standard Linux server.
Scope, responsibilities, security, and onboarding
Topics
We take over standardised Linux systems in Hetzner Cloud and dedicated root servers. Server Auction systems, Proxmox, clusters, and complex application stacks are assessed first and covered by an individual scope. Hetzner web hosting and Storage Share are not Linux server management.
Yes. The contract, billing, and ownership of cloud projects or servers remain with you. WZ-IT receives only the technical access required for the agreed operations. The access model is documented during onboarding.
No. Hetzner's own Managed Server is a standardised product without client root access. WZ-IT instead takes over the agreed operations of existing root and cloud servers in your Hetzner account, leaving room for custom Linux stacks, containers, and individual architectures.
Yes, when those components are expressly included in the agreed operational scope. We distinguish between operating system, platform services, and application. Product development, major migrations, and new integrations are planned separately; small agreed changes may be covered by included service time.
Monitoring runs around the clock in every tier. Essential and Business use defined service hours. Production provides a 24/7 P1 response within 60 minutes, while Critical provides a 30-minute response including a callback. The agreed scope and SLA definitions apply.
Hetzner remains responsible for the physical infrastructure. We assess operational signals, open or coordinate the provider ticket, and support the required operating-system or recovery work where covered by scope.
Backup management is part of standard server operations. Storage target, data volume, retention, encryption, and restore tests still need to be agreed for the environment. A successful backup job does not replace a planned recovery test.
Only after a risk-based assessment. An EOL system can be accepted as a temporary exception when safeguards and a binding upgrade or migration path are agreed. Indefinite standard operations without a transition are not offered.
Standard operations for one existing Linux server start at €149.90 net per month. Progressive volume pricing applies to servers 2 to 5 and 6 to 10 within the same client environment. Final scope is confirmed after the technical audit. You continue paying Hetzner infrastructure charges directly to Hetzner.
Yes. Monitoring Only starts at €79.90 net per client environment and month. Alerts are sent to your team; response by WZ-IT is not included. Analysis and response require server operations with the appropriate service level.
We need an inventory of servers and services, technical access, known dependencies, current backup and monitoring information, contacts, and preferred maintenance windows. Missing documentation can be built together during the audit.

“WZ-IT's advice on our Azure migration was technically sound and completely non-binding right from the intro call - we took away a great deal.”
Whether a specific IT challenge or just an idea - we look forward to the exchange. In a brief conversation, we'll evaluate together if and how your project fits with WZ-IT.
