Docmost is an open-source wiki and documentation platform for teams. It enables real-time collaborative editing of knowledge documents and is considered a modern open-source alternative to Confluence and Notion. WZ-IT supports installation, configuration, migration and operation.
Docmost can be operated with a privacy-focused architecture. We offer hosting in Germany, a DPA and documented technical and organisational measures. Whether a specific deployment complies with the GDPR also depends on configuration, permissions, content and connected services.
Docmost is open source and self-hostable, giving you control over data location and access without high licensing costs. Since Atlassian discontinued the self-hosted Confluence Server version, we advise many companies on migrating to Docmost. You get modern features like real-time collaboration and integrated diagram tools - without expensive plugin licenses.
Docmost offers an official import function for Confluence content in the Enterprise Edition. The import supports page content, hierarchies, attachments, and internal links. The process runs asynchronously via an import queue to handle large amounts of data. We're happy to assist you with the migration to ensure data integrity and correct permissions during the transition.
The free open-source version (AGPL-3.0) offers all core features: real-time collaboration, rich-text/Markdown editor, spaces, groups/permissions, comments, versioning, diagram support, and file attachments. The Enterprise version adds Confluence/Notion import, full-text search in attachments, SSO/LDAP/OIDC authentication, and professional support. For smaller teams, the Community version is often sufficient - for enterprises with compliance requirements or existing identity infrastructure, we recommend the Enterprise Edition.
Docmost includes user and group management. LDAP and single sign-on via SAML/OIDC are edition-dependent Enterprise capabilities; with the required licence, we integrate them with your identity infrastructure.
We integrate Docmost through reverse proxy, TLS and the interfaces available in the selected edition. LDAP/Active Directory and SSO via SAML or OIDC require an appropriate Enterprise licence.
Yes, we offer managed Docmost hosting on German infrastructure. The agreed operating scope can include installation, updates, monitoring, backups and support. Responsibilities, service level and recovery objectives are stated transparently in the proposal.
Docmost can be designed for large teams and enterprises. The appropriate architecture depends on user count, file volume, integrations and availability requirements; we therefore design high-availability operation only after a technical assessment.
Docmost supports email and password logins by default. LDAP, SSO and further authentication capabilities depend on edition and version and are configured only with the required vendor licence.
Docmost uses a role-based permission system. For each space, you can define which users or groups have full access, edit rights, or read-only access. We assist you with the initial setup of your permission structure.
The open-source software does not add a conventional WZ-IT per-user licence. Vendor licences for edition-dependent functions and the infrastructure, setup, migration and operations are quoted separately. We verify the required edition and current licence terms first.
Docmost provides an open-source core and may also offer commercial functions and licences. The deployed version and current vendor terms are decisive and are checked before implementation.
Yes, we handle the complete installation and configuration of Docmost - either on your own infrastructure or as a managed service with us. Installation includes Docker setup, database configuration, reverse proxy, TLS certificates, and initial user setup.
API access is edition-dependent in Docmost. With the required licence, we connect existing systems and develop controlled integrations.
Docmost offers an integrated rich-text editor (WYSIWYG) with Markdown support. Your employees can insert tables, code blocks, LaTeX formulas, and diagrams (Draw.io, Excalidraw, Mermaid) directly in documents - without external tools.
Docmost provides page history for changes. We verify its scope and recovery options for the deployed version and also back up database, attachments and configuration because history is not a complete backup.
Security depends on application version, configuration, identities and infrastructure. We implement baseline hardening, updates, network controls, monitoring and encrypted backups and verify edition-dependent MFA or SSO functions first.
We size the application, PostgreSQL, Redis and file storage from active users, page size, attachments and concurrency. Horizontal scaling or high availability is used only when supported by the version, architecture and load tests.
Yes, Docmost's web interface is responsive and works on smartphones and tablets. Your employees can access documentation and edit content on the go.
Yes, Docmost supports file attachments like PDFs, images, and Office documents. With our managed hosting, sufficient storage is included, and all attachments are automatically backed up.
With our managed hosting, we perform daily automatic backups - of both the database and all file attachments. Backups are stored encrypted on separate servers. In case of emergency, we can quickly restore your instance.
